2011 JK Performance and MPG improvement
 
Just finished upgrading to a Volant CAI, Magnaflow Performance Exhaust, and the Diablosport Intune. The combination of these 3 has helped my fuel economy substantially! The 18/21 mpg I was getting when stock diminished when I changed to 33" tires and 2.5"AEV. I kept reading forums and finding that a CAI or programmer is useless, not worth the investment. Fact is, I'm gaining 2 mpg in town and hwy is yet to be calculated. Going on a trip in 5 days on the crazy Texas highways, prooving ground for 70mph+ traffic flow!

Glad it's working out for you. Sounds like you will save about 10% in gas costs. So if you burn about $50 a week in gas you will be saving $260 a year. How much did the upgrades cost?

I'll be interested to see how this works out for you. You spent roughly $1,200 on parts & shipping. Assuming that you did the installs (so no additional cost), your break even is 62K miles at $3.50/gal for gas (almost 55K if you assume $4/gal).

CAI is useless, the programmer helps a lot of folks.

the exhaust was done by a local shop for $260. The programmer was $300. (had $150 gift certificate). and the CAI was $323. $933. total. A CAI is useless without an "opened up" exhaust. if the vehicle breaths better, it performs better. the performance gains to me, are priceless.

That's a great price on the exhaust. I looked on line and the cheapest that I could find is $300 plus shipping (install yourself).

You can put on a CAI and a high flow exhaust, but the cam will only let so much air/fuel through the 3.8....sigh....

Any data on the "performance" gains? It feels faster is not valid.

I gained aprox 1 mpg in my Ram Hemi.

Won't change any hard heads. You can show them all the dyno charts, and mpg improvements. They will forever be haters. So be it.

Doesn't it sound great when you get one it? That's a nice bonus.

News flash: your trip computer that is being read while driving 70mph on the highway is not empirical proof of MPG improvements... and neither is a seat-of-your-pants feel.

Also, there's a big difference between a Hemi and a 3.8L V6

Similarly, dismissing others by calling them "haters" does not make you right by default.

Lastly, I didn't see any dyno or controlled-condition MPG testing. Simply show us this info with the gains and instantly prove your point.


Glad you're happy with your upgrades. Me, I would have spent it on something useful. :wave:
