2010 JK needs new tranny at 7000 miles!!!

I'm pissed...I finally buy myself a NEW vehicle after many years...and with only 7000 miles the automatic transmission fails! WTF!!!!! My 2010 2dr Sport started banging into second gear...that stopped but then a "zipping" noise started between every shift. They dropped the tranny and found out the case cracked. 1st they were going to just replace the case, torque converter and some gears but found out they couldn't get the gears out of the old case. So they called Chrysler to order a new transmission only to find out they're back ordered and have no idea when they'll get one!!! Yesterday, the dealership calls me to inform me they have a complete new tranny coming directly from the supplier and should be here beginning of the week. I saw my Jeep in the shop with the crossmember, transfer case, skid shields, misc. parts, etc. all lying on the floor of the shop, wires hanging down, etc. and felt sick...I can't help but wonder if it will all go back together correctly and be the same....I've now been without my Jeep for 2 weeks and going on the third...at least they're paying for a rental car.....I wonder if I can lemmon law this Jeep and try to get a new one???

Lemon Law? I dont think so. Read up on Lemon Laws and you will see that you have a LONG way to go before your Jeep is considered a lemon.

Patience will pay here. You cant rush the dealer. They want the Jeep out the door just as much as you do. Bring in a case of cold Coke on a hot day and just tell them to let you know when it is done.

Have a little faith in the technicians. Not all are d-bags. Replacing a transmission isn't anything to worry about. I supervised a wing demate on a biz jet all last summer. That was nerve racking.

I worked in jeep dealership for 9 years.Transmission jobs were a everyday thing.Being a new jeep everything will come apart easy and is nice and clean.I,m sure they will take pride in their work and everything will be good when its back to you.

I got a new torque converter due to an accident and I swear my jeep shifts so much better. If it does not cost you anything dont worry too much about it.

I have a 2010 and it sticks coming out of park sometimes. Had the dealer try to replicate it when I had the oil changed (the first 21 oil changes are covered) and they couldn't replicate it. Was your doing this as well?

No, mine did not stick coming out of park...however, the second day I owned the Jeep the tranny would not shift out of second gear...I pulled over, put it in park and restarted the Jeep..it was fine after that until 2 weeks ago...

Wait, you are pissed that you bought a new car...which provided you with a warranty that will cover this cost? Seems like you made out pretty well here!

Would you rather have bought a used car and then be stuck with the bill after 7,000 miles? Stuff breaks, better to find out now during your warranty period than later. It doesn't mean you bought a bad Jeep - just a bad tranny.

Thanks for the positive replys guys...it's just unnerving when you see a brand new vehicle being torn apart...and you lose a bit of faith when you wind up with such a major repair on a new vehicle.....

No..just pissed that part of the drivetrain failed so early...kind of like the "why me" syndrome. Out of all the Jeeps sold, why does mine have to fail?? It screws with your head...I know Jeep and the dealership are doing all they can to fix the problem, but it does make you question the quality of the product!

I feel for ya. Iíd hate to be without my Jeep for just one day. Can only imagine what youíre going through. Itís best to just try and forget about it and time will go by so much quicker. Of course thatís hard to do since youíre driving the rental. Anyhow, good luck.

A lemon law buyback is a difficult thing. I forced a buyback on a 1994 Nissan truck and it took months of back and forth along with a day of mediation in Orlando. You have to have the same problem at least three times. If two more transmissions fail you have a case. Just be thankful it's covered and you have a rental.

it is disappointing to have to take it back to be fixed but much better then having it break just after your warranty period.

are you parked on a slope when it sticks? the parking pawl on these trans are pretty wimpy. best practice is to engage the parking brake before shifting the trans to park (on a steep slope I stop in Neutral and take my foot off the brake pedal to be sure the parking brake is holding).
