2008 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Mirror Relocation Issue

I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (JK) and bought mirror relocation mounts so that I can relocate the mirrors and take the doors off. THe problem I have is that I have the mirrors that turn in or out (spring loaded) and cant seem to seperate the upper part of the mirror from the lower part of the mirror.

Has anyone successfully relocated their JK series mirrors and can tell me how to take the mirror apart? It seems as though they are sealed together, although the directions for the mirror mounts say that if you wiggle it back and forth it will seperate...didnt happen.

Unscrew the bottom screw (the vertical one aiming up into the bottom of the mirror) and remove. Stick a screwdriver (a big enough head that won't get in there and mess up the threads) up there and whack the bottom of it with a mallet. Your mirror will come loose. Note: you'll have better luck doing this while the mirror is still in it's factory location.

The mirror is really jammed in there so don't apply a lot of force without being prepared. On the first mirror I moved I pulled up on it so hard that when it came loose it went flying like 15 feet in the air and when it hit the ground the mirror broke loose from the plastic enclosure.

One very good word of advice. DO NOT put lithium grease on them thinking they will be easier to get out the next time. The grease creates a suction and the mirrors will NEVER come out again. I'm not sure how I know this. I have been told that graphite will help with future extractions.

If you just back the screw in the bottom out 2 turns then tap the head of the screw upward with a soft hammer (brass is ideal) then the screw will keep the mirror from flying away and once it is loose you can take the screw all the way out.
