2007 tow package

Hey guys, quick question. My buddy is looking into buying a 2007 Wrangler. The one he is looking at, has a Dana 44 rear axle, a metal hook where a hitch would be, and a heavy front bumper with a tube going across the grill, and recovery points on the front of the bumper. It also has fog lights running through the bumper.

My question is... is this a stock Jeep with the tow package?

The front bumper sounds aftermarket. Unless the prev owner removed the hitch, it should be there if towing pkg. You didn't mention 2dr vs 4dr, but seems I read that all 4dr came w/D44 in 07. Someone more knowledgeable will chime in with more info.

Stock, but not for long

If he is interested in towing, he needs to determine if it has 3.73 or 4.10 gears in the axles.
3.21 would not be good for towing.

I have an 07 2dr. with a towing package. It came with a D44 with 4:10 gears. the hitch is a frame mount with a 4 pin plug.

the gearing is the main thing we want to know. It's a 2 door by the way. I know the 07 tow package had the 4.10's, but I don't know the tow package to see it. I can't Jack up the rear and spin the back tire either to figure out the gears and the window sticker does not give a gear ratio.

The hook on the back I don't know if I'd tow with. It looks similar to a ? mark bolted to the frame. No ball hitch or anything like that and it's always open.

The bumper looks "stockish". It's large with 2 D shackles. The foggers are in the center, underneath, but are set in the bumper and back a little. Rock guards are cut into the bumper over the hole that the 2 fogs are set in. A tube (sounds hollow when u knock on it) is bolted on the top running halfway or so up the grill.

Since you can't jack it up to spin the tire:
Copy the VIN and bring it to the dealer for a build sheet.

Sounds like the recovery hook on the back. Tow package would have a frame mopunted reciever back there.Front bumper is other than stock. Get the VIN and call your local dealer parts guy. Tell them you just bought it and want the spec sheet for it. He will fax it to you within minutes. Then you can see what it came with.

Let's try this. Toss up some pics of a 2dr 07 towing package that shows me what the stock front bumper and/or the towing hitch looks like. I know the Dana 44 when I see it, so that's not a worry.

Everything looks stock. Fenders, skid guard, wheels, rear bumper, suspension, etc. I'm tempted to say that bumper and hitch are stock but I can't be 100% without comparing them with pics of stock towing package stuff I guess.

Thanks everyone for the help and speedy responses

Ok I'll try a dealer. Can I call up any Jeep dealer and get the info from them?

Yep. Just tell them you just bought the Jeep and you want the build sheet for it. Have a fax number, and you'll see it within minutes. You can stop by and do the same thing. Have the VIN.

Ok. My friend owes me lunch now lol! I drove to the Jeep and copied down the VIN number. Then I drove all the way to a Jeep dealership near me & a mechanic ran the VIN. I still dont know if it's a tow package or not, but it has 4.10 gears and a rear D44. That's all that really matters anyway

thanks everyone!

An 07 non-Rubicon with 4.10s is likely a factory tow package. That also includes limited slip rear end. At least that is what my package is. And the front bumper wouldn't give you any clues about the rest of it.

A friend of mine bought an '07 (new) with 4.10 axles, no tow package.
