20" Wheels, does it ride harder than stock 18"
I noticed that lots of people are putting 20" wheels on there JK, and was wondering what it has done to your ride?
Thanks

Figure it to be more a beach crawler and garage queen.

It would depend on the amount of tire you surround the rim with, more than the rim size itself. 20s and 35s or 37s and I'd say you wouldn't notice a difference at all. 20s and a little 29" tire and I bet it'll handle better than a 15 with tons of tire on it, but you'll feel every little bump in the road and well it'll just look out of place on a jeep.

20s are fine for the mall or garage but not so good on the beach. You need to air-down for sand; in those cases, the more sidewall the better.
In fact, I'd say 18s are too big a hoop unless you run 35 inch tires.
But this is only if you want it to work...

For reference here are some of the largest stock tires sizes and their respective sidewall height.
JK 32" tire on 17" wheel. 7.5" sidewall
TJ 30" tire on 15" wheel. 7.5" sidewall.
YJ/CJ 28" tire on 15 wheel, 6.5" sidewall.
Not to mention those are narrow tires.
A 35" on a 20" wheel would give 7.5" sidewall.
A 37 on a 20" wheel would give a 8.5" sidewall.
With the added width you will have enough surface contact and should be fine.
Most guys here hate them because they don't like the look, are stuck in the past or think they are "hardcore" and would tear them up on the trail.

or it could be the unnecessary additional unsprung weight of the larger diameter wheel, insane expense of replacement rubber for the hoops, and general distaste for bling...

That's where I'm at. I can't even stand seeing 18" wheels on JK's, but I do like the 17" Moabs. 20s......hell no.

20's maybe when I go above 40", but 'til then, I'll stick with 17's.
Good luck.

I don't know what you are calling lots of people. Most people are downsizing their stock wheels, especially if they start out with a Sahara which has 18's.
I whole heartedly agree with Hilldweller.
