08 jk 44,000 miles blown motor

Driving down the interstate last night, heard a rattling sound. Pulled off at next exit, bad knocking noise from engine. Found a jeep dealer but it was after hours so I stayed in a motel nearby. This morning, tech checked it out, either bad bearings or rod. $4400 for new engine not including labor. Thank god I bought the extended warranty from carmax. More updates to follow.

At $4400, I'd be looking into an LS swap.
I hope that Extended Warranty covers this for you.

3rd owner and yeah I hope the warranty covers it. I asked about a 3.6 replacement and got shot down.

HaHa, a 3.6 replacement would be sweet! However, they would have to replace a lot of electronics and the transmission to make that work. They are not going to give you anything more than what is necessary to make it what it was.

Thanks, I won't know anything till after the adjuster goes and looks at it on Monday. What really sucks is the jeep is a a dealer in Wheeling, WV and I live in Columbus, OH 2 hrs away.

Buy a AAA membership. They will tow it like 100-150 miles, depending on membership level. The cost of the AAA membership is far less than getting it towed on your own $$$.

latest update, the motor is being replaced, but I couldn't get an answer if it was a new motor or rebuild. It will have a warranty, so I don't care either way. The dealership wants me to pay for 4 extra hours of labor that the warranty won't cover. So, I called the Jeep customer service number and talked to a rep about it. Someone is going to call the dealership tomorrow and get an explanation as to why they are taking 4 hrs longer than the national average that the warranty company is going by. I got a subscription to eautorepair.net a labor estimator to see what the labor hours should be. Complete engine assembly: 12.3hrs Long block: 16.8hrs Short Block: 21.6hrs. Without knowing what kind of engine (complete, long, short) is going in the jeep, it looks like the warranty company is going by the long block, and the dealership is going by the short block. Any jeep techs want to jump in on this I welcome your input.
