interesting night last night in the desert.

so we decided to do a little night run last night in las vegas, take the bitter springs trail backwards and out through nellis dunes.. it was pretty cold for an april night in las vegas at 43 degrees, windy as hell, and the sand was blowing all in my eyes and mouth, but it was gonna be a fun little 3 hour excursion at 11pm, so I was told. in total we had 6 vehicles, with me being the only jeep (gotta show my bros FJ club what its all about lol)..

so anyways, on with the story. we finally make it to the dunes, the trail was pretty soft sand with about an ankle deep layer of the finest silt I have ever seen. the slightest breeze, let alone a vehicle driving on it, made huge dust clouds to where you couldnt even see past your windshield, but we made it through and continued on the trail. at this point is was about 4am, a little longer than I was expecting to be out, but there were a couple sandy hills that gave some people some trouble. the city lights of las vegas were in view, and we were getting pretty close to the end.

But out of the corner of my eye, I saw what looked to be truck lights off the trail a ways, so I mentioned it on the cb. someone came back saying "it looks like they are flashing their lights!" so we all agreed to go check it out....

this is what we found:

3 idiot teenagers stuck on the frame of what they claimed was one of their dads work trucks... a 2wd F-150 with street tires. they said they had been stuck out there for about 3 hours, in the cold, with one of them wearing shorts and a t-shirt haha! so after about an hour or 2 of winching and telling these fools what to do, we got them out and aired them down so hopefully they wouldnt get stuck following us the rest of the way out.

on the way out, however, they seemed to be a little reluctant to follow us out to the street. we stopped to air up, and they stayed waaay back, but now that we had cell service, we decided to see what this was all about, and called metro. apparently the truck was stolen and the driver was missing. one of the company security finally showed up (apparently they had been trying to track the truck via gps) and went after them. they ended up getting one of the boys and the truck back and held him there till police arrived, but the other 2 went running through the desert. man it was a crazy night, didnt get home till 8 am.
