people are finding such cool thing!!!! this might be dumb but how do you all go about finding things like abondened buildings and towns? do you just drive around till you find something or is there some type of website that has places listed or what? id love to start exploring these types of places but i have no idea where to start. im in boone, nc btw
Out West we have lots of wide open public land to explore. I track down old 1800s maps and then follow the old dirt trails and roads shown on them.
I found this abandoned stagecoach station in the middle of nowhere:
On another trip a few miles south of there I parked my Jeep alongside a fairly well used dirt road, and on a hunch, walked up a rocky gulch where I figured the old trail must have gone and found these stagecoach tracks and writing on the rocks nearby:
ďThis isnít the Old West, because the New West has never arrived. Itís just the West, like Wyatt Earp died yesterday.Ē ─ Michael Martin Murphey talking about the Eastern Sierra during an interview in 1996.
One time while on a night adventure my buddies and I were wheeling by the Rio Grande River...( border between Texas and Mexico) and stumbled across some a crazy looking dog. legend has it that its a CHUPACABRA!!!!
-did I just get laid?... idk but that was way too close!
No, I had no flashlight with me, and the doors and windows were locked and i dont break in to the houses i find. If a house is open i usually go in to look around but i never take anything that was in the house with me.
Last time i went in to a house when it was getting dark witout a flashlight i almost fell in to the basement (2 meter drop right down).
I am never doing that again.
