I do alot of backpacking and wheeling in my area. I have found four strange things in Ga/Tn.

1. Found an abandon town in Austell Ga. It has five buildings one of them being a church. We use to go there in high school and party. I wish I could find it again and take pictures. It was really weird the town was built in the 70s and then deserted. Everything was in good shape so you could walk around the buildings.

2. We were GPS backpacking in the Cahutta wilderness in TN. We were 20 miles from anything and came upon a tent. Backpackers usually keep to their own when they cross a camp site but something wasnt right with this one. There was an old abandon tent that looked like it had been weathered for about five years. There was a trail of clothing leading up to the tent. We found womens jeans, panties, bra and shirt. We opened the tent and it was deserted. There was just a sleeping bag and an old latern. We looked around to see if we could see signs of a crime but couldnt find any. To this day I dont know if it was lazy teens who didnt want to pack their stuff out or if bad things happened there. We left everything as it was and reported it to the ranger. Moral of the story..ALWAYS carry a gun when you are in the woods.

3. There is an abandon house in Marietta Ga. A doctor owned the house. His wife died and he couldnt face going back to the house. He had the house boarded up and he wouldnt sell it. It has been there for about 10 years. It has been ransacked for items but the structure is still in good shape. A bunch of skaters use the abandon pool...

4. There is a house about three miles from my home in Canton Ga. The house is in the middle of no where. There are no paved roads just old grown up 4x4 trails. The house still has furniture in it and windows are still in place. My only thought is that it is an abandon hunting lodge. Every time I hike by it I am tempted to go in....

So one day we are wheeling on Broke Back Mountain. And about 20' down the trail we came across an H2 that we think is stuck but instead its 2 cowboys riding each other. Not that there is anything wrong with that... if they wanna wheel an H2 who am I to say any different. It kinda freaked us out seeing an H2 that far off the hard road... so we got the HELL outa their!!!

Great stories, keep'm comming!!!

I was deployed to Tooele Army Depot with the Ca. National Guard a few years back. A buddy and I were out on roving guard duty in a Humvee. While we were "reconning a possible avenue of approach" into the ammo holding area, we stumbled across a VX (nerve agent) filled land mine. We had to call in EOD. I've worked with EOD quite a bit and I've never seen one of those guys panic. The tech that showed up to deal with it was an E-7. He took one look at it and got panicy as all hell. He showed us where he kept his nerve agent antidote kits and gave us detailed instructions on what to do if we heard/saw the mine go off while he was dealing with it.

Because of the nerve agent, the mine couldn't be blown in place, he had to collect it, render it un-exlopdable and take it to the chemical depot that was a half hour away. The next day, he came to us and let us know that the mine was inert. Supposedly, it had been filled with the neutralizing agent and never marked as such. We had to go through a big debriefing on it. I still think it was a live VX mine though.

My brother in law and I were dirt biking one day on state land and he found the cellar of a house that had been torn down (the hard way).

That looks like an old army fort. Are there any rivers close by I bet I can find out what it really is.

When I was living in an old riverside house on the mississippi during college and my roomies and I decided to check out the abandoned rail depot that was next door. The entire place was one big room and filled waist deep with random junk. Pink flamingos, old phono players, moose heads, stacks and stacks of old newspapers, 60's and 70's clothes, etc. There was a path through the middle of the stuff to the back where someone had put in a bed and kitchenette. There were lots and lots and lots of empty liqour bottles all over the counters. The weird thing was the walls were covered in post it notes. I mean litterally hundreds of them with random stuff like grocery lists, what to wear each day of the week, phone numbers, and some had weird letter/number codes on them we couldn't figure out. We figured it must be owned by our landlady, since she was an alcholholic kindergarden teacher who could remember anything.

'98 TJ has been under the knife the last 18 months getting a new frame, torque boxes and fenders.

best thing that I have found, was running atv's in Iowa, and came upon an abonded military base, found tank tracks,(the metal tracks they ride on), old concrete buildings, then on another adventure found an old scrapyard, on farmland, they had pushed old cars/trucks into the gulleys to stop soil erosion, I wish that i could go dig/pull them out, a lot of them still had paint, next to that was an old farmhouse or what was left.
