Yukon Awesome 35 OX Locker Installed
I finished up the install of my upgraded axle and new selectable OX locker. Hopefully I can climb that rock on Rocky Top and many more with this. (see Dana 35 Carnage Thread )
Here's what you get in the kit
Check out the difference between a stock 27 spline axle and a Yukon 30 spline axle.
The cover is 1/2" thick, WOW!
Here's me pulling the axle bearings. I rented the puller from Advanced. I'd hate to pull them with out.
Holding the locker, while installing the ring gear, proved to be difficult, considering each bolt need to be torqued to 80ft lbs, so Mike created the cool little jig.
The locker installed in it new home. Backlash set to .006
I chose to place the shifter behind the AX-15 shifter for a factory look.
Here I am doing a little test fitting.
I chose to keep the cable as hidden as possible. OX had you running it over the floor. I decided to place it under the console and use the E brake slot for the exit. Notice the yellow insulation to protect the cable against rubbing.
Here's the shifter mounted in it's permanent location.
The final install of the shifter. Doesn't that look sweet?
And finally.. the cover for the mighty OX!!!
The entire install took about 12 hours. Mike and I are very cautious. I think the second one will be faster. Also we had to depend on another person to show us how to set backlash, but we won't have to do that again. It's easy.
The OX instructions were pretty good, but they don't talk about testing the locker for engagement. Just remember to hold one axle while turning the other with the locker engaged. After about 1 revolution it engages (man does it ever.)
Also the cable testing instructions weren't the best, but once adjusted it worked great everytime even after it was installed.
The only problem we experienced was a chattering noise in the differential. Honestly, it scared me pretty bad. I called OX, whose service is awesome, and they told me it was the teeth on the locking ring engaging just a little. He said it won't hurt anything and that adjusting the cable will eliminate it. I adjusted the cable and it got better and by the end of today, it was all but gone.
I can't wait to test this thing.

Looks great! I may have to consider this upgrade. Some questions: Is it a complete kit or did you peice it together from different brands? Did you get it directly from OX or a distributor? Does it have four spider gears in the locker?
And the big question: How much $$$?

The kit, isn't really a kit. They just pull everything off the shelf and package it together, but I believe you can order it from OX USA also. Yukon seems to have a deal with OX.
Yes the new design has 4 spider gears and a redesigned cable.
I got it from Tennessee Offroad, but I called Randy's Ring & Pinion first. The saleman wanted me to purchase it from TOR, because he got the sale either way and did a favor for his distributor (TOR). Cost $999.00 OTD internet ads say $899, but then you have shipping, local tax was cheaper.

Did you truss your 35? If so any pics of it?
Overall the install went fairly well. The hardest part was finding a home for the shifter and path for the cable to get there.
I'm looking forward to seeing how this kit holds up.

Nope, it would sort of negate that awesome diff cover it came with it. I'm going to make a truss out of 1/2 " or thicker steel and route it from axle tube to axle tube over the differential. The Superior axle truss always puzzled me. It seems it would have been better to truss over the axles, not from the back, but what do I know.
