YJ owner wants to be TJ owner

I've been wanting a TJ for some time now. There is nothing wrong with my YJ except a cracked windshield and the minor rust blemish. Ive saved up a bit, and figured it was time to put a second jeep in my garage... Ive been looking at the 97-01 TJ's.... I like them bone stock, and ive seen them from 3500-9000 in my area with miles in relation to the price and shape... Any hints, worries or things I should look at specifically? Thanks in advance... OOO i'm looking on the low end, say $6k ish. I found a 01, 6cyl, with 125k on the clock for $5999 at a dealer. Only problem is it's yellow....

94 YJ, 4 squirrels tugging 31's, 5 speed, 2in budget lift.......RHINOed outside and inside......

Wife's rig.... 2012...GC...24x.......blk on blk.....5.7...

I own a car dealership and specialize in Jeeps.

Jeeps are easy to buy- Check frame rails in rear, Floors and the frame near the steering box. I am from New England so we have rust issues. Jeeps dont usually have any motor issues- if there is a noise, walk away. Other than that it is the personal things- how clean is it, does it smell inside, does it drive OK, are the tires OK...etc

Another note- Buy from a reputable dealer

Good luck

That IS a problem...

Mine's attractive, but there are VERY few other colors that I'd less rather have.
If you don't like yellow now, don't get it. It won't "grow on you" like I thought mine would eventually.

'11 JK Unlimited Sport S, stock for now...

See here's the thing, I've just never been a yellow vehicle type of guy. I remember when a yellow car was the new thing . FORD intorduced the "Ranger Splash" edition back in like 92 or 93. I remember they offered it in only two colors at the time. That sparkly blue, or the yellow. Since then I've been turned off of yellow cars, except fot the classics, lke a Cuda, or a Chevelle. And it's not that all the girls at my HS ( I'm a teacher ) drive yellow cobalts, or yellow bimmers, or yellow sunfires that turn me off.

If i had too bite the bullet I guess maybe 'd grab it, but i'd have to do something with a tad more testosterone, like this Jeep, which looks real nice by the way....BUT then i run into the problem of only wanting a stock jeep for the most part... I know I whine....

I'll keep you posted....

If the jeep forum was politically correct I might be offended. Although if it were politically correct I wouldn't be here. I have my days with the yellow jeep. I sometimes wish it was orange . Of course the wife wants to know why it can't be a normal color. Yellow and black is a nice contrast. But to each his own.

It's true. I stayed stock for almost a year and the bug bit. I find myself saying, "well if I do this then that's it. No more". And yet in the last month I've linex' the tub and bought a halftop. Now I'm looking at flat fender flares and bumper upgrades. Dadgum jeep forum. Too many good looking jeeps and not enough money.

BTW, don't forget to check for engine and tranny leaks. I just got bit by both. Front seal on tranny and rear seal on engine. Last thing I want to do is spend money on repairs when I got so many parts to buy
