My old car, a Lincoln LS, had a button like that. It was a fuel-cutoff reset switch I think. If you hit something with enough force or got into an accident it would trigger the shutoff and that button reset it.
In the Jeep though I have a switch like that and it's the valet controls for the Clifford alarm. |

Make sure your flux capacitor is fully charged, then accelerate to 88 MPH. Just as you hit 88 MPH, press the button and think of a happy place....

It could be the dome light disable switch that is available at Quadratec. It disables the dome lights when you remove your doors. Nice aftermarket item if you're too lazy to remove the dome light fuse behind the glove box door!
Just saw the photo and that's not what I was thinking of. What's the gray wire going to your doors for?

Yah.. that's the button for your alarm. Its used to program remotes and also bypass the starter kill if your remote breaks and your alarm is going off so that you can still start your jeep. BTW, I love that speaker wire running to your door ![]() |

i cant trace the wire as it goes into a huge loom of wires... oh well..
as far as the wires going to the doors ... lol ... those are for the power door locks... i even put in cool little disconnects so I can take the doors off and not have to cut the wires The guy who I bought it from never took the doors off I guess :/there is an alarm, and it is after market I'm positive. I know its after market cause it sucks *** :/ |

my money says its a "valet" key for the alarm. when I used to have an AM alarm on a previous truck it would do all kinds of things like change the number of chirps for lock/unlock, the duration the alarm would sound till it went off, if the light blinked and tons of other crap.
nearest I could figure the "valet" part somehow disabled the alarm, but made the doorlocks work, or something like that. I never did figure it out, as it was a dumb option. It worked in conjuntion with the remote in a weird morse code/rube goldberg sort of way with different combinations of flipping the switch and holding various buttons on the remote. It couldn't disable the alarm on it's own, as that would make it an easy switch for a thief. Even with the manual it never made any sense anyhow. It was dumb and I totally forgot about it's existence at some point. I know that doesn't help much, but it's my experience. Sean Last edited by SeanCucf; 02-13-2008 at 03:58 PM.. |

in my old car, to turn the valet mode on, you would turn the ignition on, press button, turn ignition off, all within 10 sec. But if the alarm is off now, then i wouldn't mess with the button, you could end up turning the alarm on, and not being able to get it off.
