Hi im new to the jeep forum but i have a 2003 jeep wrangler sport and im looking to get a lift and bigger tires. anyone have any suggestions on what i should get
For tires and wheels, check out the Tires & Wheels Forum. You could start a thread there providing as much detail as you can regarding how the tires will be used. Daily driver or not, what type of terrain they will see, etc.
I'd recommend alloy wheels. Steel wheels are tempting with the cheaper price, but in my opinion, not worth the potential headaches in the long run.
This is great advice. Spend time thinking about what your jeep uses will be. Daildriver that looks good, 2 track driving in the woods while hunting,.... all the way to extreme stuff. The more you understand what you'll use it for, the better you can set the vehicle to perform best. In the future, your vision might change so spend some time seriously thinking before you start spending your hard earned money.

I was able to do (5) 33s duratrac tires, (5) new wheels, OME springs, bilstein shocks, 1" mml, 1.25" bl, steering stabilizer, jks quick discos, zj tierod conversion shipped, all for $2700. So his budget is pretty decent
I say 2 inch coils, 1 inchbody lift, good shocks, belly up, probably need some adjustable control arms, (I am very happy with my newer style RCs), body armor, regear, winch, ARBs. Stop when the money does.
I bought 5 33x12.50R15 Goodyear Duratracs for $198 each on Amazon. That is around $1050 with tax included, plus I get FREE 2-day shipping for being a Prime member. :bacon:
I'm not really recommending against them as I have no experience with them nor know anyone who has. I just think that for his budget he could get a better suspension system.
With that budget, its going to be pretty much limited to springs and shocks when it comes to the suspension.
I wouldn't consider that a suspension system.
Zone is good stuff for the price. Their shocks and coils ride excellent based on my experience. Anyone else with experience with Zone will confirm this. If you search around, you will see what I mean.
I have heard it is a decent set-up I just don't have any experience with it so I can't comment on it.
OP, to his point of it not being a "system," you could also consider upgrading more suspension components (CAs, TBs, etc) and running 31s until you decide to jump to 33s (or 35s ).
You'd be surpised as to what a built Jeep on 31s can do.
I was on a $3000 budget as well and I guess I just got lucky! Got my 4" Skyjacker and 5 33" Duratracs for about $1600. Got some money left over for some other stuff! btw, the Skyjacker lift rides so much smoother than the stock lift my TJ had. I'm overall excited with my purchase.
Those who are recommending against Zone, why? I had OME coils and shocks at one time. I pulled them and sold them because I wanted a little more height.
I had the zone 3" on my first TJ. Now on my new one I have 2" coil spacers. My current jeep is way more comfortable than the zone lift. It's definitely not an upgrade in comfort from the OEM suspension
I couldn't tell you if the springs are what makes the ride stiffer because nitro shocks are somewhat stiffer than hydros but as a whole my rancho and coil spacers setup is much better than my zone setup
You could always do a hi-line fender front and rear (rokmen, metalcloak, others). That way you can fit 35's with no lift, gain up to 2 inches of ground clearance everywhere, and with no driveline changes you don't have to worry about:
- which control arms to run
- driveshaft vibs
- which track bar will fit best
you can always add the lift later when you find out what fits your needs best
1500$ wheels and tires
1500$ left, get the zone 4.25 lift. Coils are great, shocks are not bad at all. Everything on that kit is useful and decent for ~550$. Add 400$ for SYE and cv shaft. 600$ left, get a front currie or metal cloak track bar, then about 300$ left get rear upper CAs either currie or MC.
Coils
Shocks
F track bar
Rear relocation bracket
F/R extended links
Rear upper CAs
SYE and cv shaft
BL and MML
Tires and wheels all for about 3k.
Very solid IMO and you can complete the CAs as money allows. I had the zone combo lift on my old jeep with 33s, and currie front track bar. Drive it daily and off roaded somewhat often, the suspension did very well. If your not going to do any crazy rock crawling every weekend, or use it only for trails, I think this is a good option. But that's just me.
