which would you pick ???

im soon about to lift my 99 TJ 4 inches and im looking at my options for wheels and tires here is what i have ...

1) set of four 18x10 XD alloy wheels black and crome (really good looking) with set of four BFG all-terains on them some where around 32"-33"x 11''
for only $400

2) i work ant jeep dealership and can get new rubi. 17" wheels with BFG mudders on them installed for under $1000 (set of 5)

ps i have the lug nut adapters for the rubi set already 4.5x5 to a 5.5x5 adapter/1" spacer

ALSO i am open to suggestions but please weigh in on my options with your sugestions

None of the above. With only 32-33" tires I'd want 15" wheels (16" maybe). Not enough sidewall to be practical for anything other than the street with 17-18" wheels.

I agree. With that size tire, I'd run a 15" rim.

Not to mention how much more replacement tires will cost down the road with 17" wheels.

One important question though; do you ever envision going to 35s or bigger and/or upgrading the brakes?

Be very careful with the wife mod. Uninstallation can be extremely expensive. Wife mods have been known to take the Jeep and all other mods during the uninstall process. Also, make sure you service your wife mod properly as often as humanly possible. Wife mods not properly serviced may malfunction or uninstall themselves at any time.

maybe one day down the road if i buy a second vehickle i would go to thirty fives
brakes are a factor in my tire size decision, if i go to 35s i will upgrade to slotted disks front and rear
okay then so yall would do neither . . what would you do on a budget then, under 1200

I'd would pass on the 18s simply because they are a 10" wide rim and a narrower wheel would be preferable with the 11" tire width. I run 17x9 wheels and 33x12.50 tires and I've never had a problem, great sidewall flex offroad, very strong sidewall, and very good street manners. The increased wheel size also allows me to run much bigger brakes.

Seriously? You need to get out more.

Not necessarily true, there are a lot of vehicles which now come standard with 17" wheels and you can score tires for cheap. I found my set off an FJ Cruiser forum for pennies on the dollar.

Slotted rotors won't do anything except lighten your wallet.

If your future plans include 35s and brake upgrades the 17s aren't a bad idea. That's why I asked the question. Some big brake kits won't fit in 15" wheels.

well the 18s with tires on them are one hell of a deal but i also dont think 18s belong on a jeep.
i can see myself going to 33s with no hesitation but 35s will have to be affter the metal cloke upgrade and that should be a year and a half from now

Just because you do it doesn't make it right. Stand by what I said, although I would add what tires you are running will have bearing on side wall flex, grip, strength, etc. noturmailman makes a good point about big brake kit although didn't Vanco start making them for the smaller wheels?

One of the Vanco kits fits "most" 15s, but they have an even better kit that doesn't.

I would go with the 17s, it sounds like you may end us using them.

BFG a/ts on the 18s btw
i drive like a bat out of hell and im looking hard into turbo kits so i agree that breaks should be on my list of things to upgrade. IMO 17s will be fine for the moderate wheeling i usuall do, i dont really plan on going boulder smashing with them its a 98.5% in town driver

You want an opinion, 18's look horrible on a TJ unless you wan a "Bro" Jeep.

I would rather have 15's for 33's. They look the best in my opinion, 17 is the max I would go but it would be on no smaller than a 35. That sounds like a good deal if you like it, but my personal opinion I don't.

JK Rubi's have a 5 on 5 bolt pattern not 5 on 5.5 so either you typed it wrong or you have the wrong adapters already.

What makes you think I haven't experienced it? All you know about me is my current profile. Although you are right this setup has never been on a jeep I have owned because I wouldn't do it. Have I seen it on others though? We all like to think our setup is good, but unfortunately for you it isn't always the case. How many threads get started on here with completely stupid ideas but eventually OP finds some yahoo who says "oh, yeah, I run that and it works great"? Not saying this setup is completely stupid, but for 32-33" tires it is not right.
