Would you buy a home made BL for your TJ?
I was searching around on Craigs list and came across someone locally who has a 1 inch BL for sale. So I inquired about it and received a response. Here is what the response was:
The body lift was something I did when I was a machinist. They are 1" aluminum pucks with the hole drilled in them. Right now they are just plain aluminum color, but if you wanted, I could see and have them anodized black for you. I put this on my jeep when I had it and really worked well. I have the bolts also. The total would be $35 with bolts. This person does not have a MML for sale. Part of me says "The price is right! Go for it!" The other part of me says "You should really buy a whole kit from JKS, PA, Daystar, etc..." What do you all think? Thanks in advance!

I think there is a reason every other company make them out of plastic, not aluminum. But if they are cheap why not.

this my thought on any homemade mod on anything, If it fails who is libel??? if it doen't matter, then, no matter, but,,,, if what ever the home product is, if something does fail you have someone else to blame.

I could of sworn that i read somewhere on here that the aluminum ones give off more vibrations or something "ride alil rougher". But dont hold me to it.

go for it...aluminum is strong and more expensive than plastic. Alot of 3" lifts for pickups are made of aluminum. As for the MML, buy a name brand not a homebrew.
What did he use for the front bumper things (grill support)?

No.
A 1" BL isn't all that expensive, I'd rather buy something where I got someone to whine to if it goes bonkers on the road. |

Thank you all for your input! Anyone else have their two cents they would like to add? I figure at 1/3 the cost, why not? BL, usually cost $100 or so, plus shipping, right?
Thanks! EDIT: I found a BL that uses aluminum pucks. Has anyone used this lift? http://www.redrock4x4.com/shop/products/715.html I assume this homemade one would be similar to it.

Well me and my buddy made pucks for his Mada truck. The reason people make them out of Polyurethane is the cost, the aluminum ones tend to be more expensive and are just for the extra look. But black plastic works fine. The ones we made out of aluminum worked just fine. It was easy to bolt on and stayed great for the 2 years he owned that truck. So in my opinion go ahead and get them if the price is right, i have experienced building these and its really a simple make, im sure if he is a machinest he made them great quality.
