Is It Worth It?

I FOUND A 97 SPORT WITH 12600 MI. ON IT. IT IS A 4.0 WITH 5 SPD, SOFT TOP, NEW BFG 31'S ETC. IS THIS TOO MANY MILES? IT SEEMS TO RUN AND DRIVE FINE. I'M WANTING IT FOR MY SON. WITH THIS MANY MILES DO YOU THINK IT WILL GO AWHILE BEFORE ANYTHING MAJOR HAPPENS? THE PERSON WANTS 6.500 FOR IT. DO YOU THINK IT'S WORTH IT? THANKS!

If they've got some maintenance records, I'd give it a go. Last October I bought a '97 Sport with the stick with a relatively new clutch with 108K knowing that it'd be good for close to 300K if properly maintained. I paid $7,900 for the rig with the soft top, stock wheels, aftermarket alarm, and full metal doors. The problem is, I keep buying more stuff for it!

Maint records would be key. If they dont have any, check for exhaust manifold cracks, leaking pinion seals, leaking steering box (seal at the pitman arm), leaking radiator. Those are some trouble spots on the early model tj's.
