Wont go into gear need help!!

I have a 97 TJ wrangler for starters. So yesterday i was pulling the carpet out of my tj and centre console so that i could clean it all after it got rained on. Jumped in the car today and it wont go into gear at all. Was wondering what i could do or check? I was thinkin that when i pulled the centre console out that the stick may have been somehow bumped out of place. Any info would be very much appriecated.

Maybe some one else is more intuitive them me but I would need more info like: Is this an auto or manual? Fill out your profile for starters.

by this "I was thinkin that when i pulled the centre console out that the stick may have been somehow bumped out of place." I assume you mean stick like in manual? If so are you stepping in clutch? Running engine? etc...

definitely need more info...
If manual:
-clutch pedal feel spongy?
-had trouble with grinding gears before this? (thin clutch disc)
-shifter contacting console
If auto:
-pinched shifter cable?
-cable disconnected from shifter linkage?

check your 4WD lever... I did this and the lever was in between 2 wheel and 4 wheel and the gears wouldn't engage it was manual througout 1st- 5th...

once i popped it into place all was fine
