Wiper motor?

My windshield wipers have started misbehaving. On intermittent or low speed they move really slow and stutter, and occasionally stop altogether. Every now and then they'll work okay, but usually not. At first I thought the wiper motor was shot, but they work fine on high speed, no problems. Has anybody else had this problem, and did it turn out to be the motor or is there a solenoid somewhere that makes it do that? Thanks.

edit: Oh yeah, my dashboard has not been wet in quite a while, in case anybody was about to ask.

Yup. You know where the wiper arms attach to the body? Well, you gotta get some lube in there, in behind the pivot. I used some small tubing stuck onto the end of the WD-40 straw to get the WD-40 in behind the giant "washer". No more st,st,stu, stuttering.

Tried the WD40, and it didn't help. The stuttering has been gone for a while, now they just don't work at all unless on high. Occasionally they'll decide to work a little and get stuck half way across, but usually they don't budge unless on high. The work great on high, so I'm thinking it's a component problem. The switch has to be good, because it's getting the signal to turn on, so I'm thinking the only thing left is either a bad motor or some sort of solenoid. Anybody know if a motor can go bad and still work on high but not on low? I'm thinking so, but not positive. Don't really know how many components there is to the entire wiper system...

The motor is most likely NOT bad! I had people tell me the same thing last week and they were wrong. I saved $97 by opening the motor up, cleaning the grime from the contacts, applying dielectric grease, and sealing her back up. The whole process took me about a half hour. Unless you make $200/hr, it's worth your time. Based on your symptoms, that seems to be the problem. If the magnets and contacts of the motor were bad, it wouldn't work in any setting. I'll post photos tomorrow after work. Save your money if you can!

Wiper motor

I just went through this problem. Had the same symptoms. At first I thought it was the wiper switch. It tested ok. I did try to lube the linkage prior to replacing the motor. No luck. I then replaced the motor with a rebuilt from NAPA. I actually got a defective unit from NAPA ( it burnt up immediately after I turned it on to test it). I got a second unit from NAPA and now the wipers work perfectly.

I'd try this first to save the money then if it doesn't work try a whole new motor and see if that solves it. If that doesn't, it could be a bad connection or a malfulction on your multi-switch
