I'd love to see mine that clean again, but I don't think that's in the cards.

These two things cannot be simultaneously true. Please re-evaluate your statements.

yeah it didnt take long cause mine was hardly dirty but my cummins was always filthy and when i would clean that i just took it to the car wash pressure washed it off and went and got some kind of cheap spray on wax that is ok for belts and stuff and sprayed the whole engine and it turns out pretty good.

How can you say that it both "flows enough air" and then say "its pretty restrictive" in the same breath? You're not FORCING more air into the engine. If all the air it can use is already being provided to it, then how can making more air available change anything?

i just feel the stock box is garbage it sucks in air from one side at a 90* bend and then sucks it out on the opposite side. its just a bad design imo

OK, speculation about design aesthetics aside, does it flow enough air or not? You said it did. Have you changed your mind?

You've apparently missed the threads that had real, live, dyno testing links.

The design can DEFINETELY be improved and i am working on something right to do that however I am stuck on finding someone who works with PVC to make me a model to mock-it up...

Quick question: if you get as much air as you can use when breathing through a snorkel while swimming in the ocean, how does it improve anything to breathe through a 3" pipe?

I think if you go to the local pic and pull, you can find an intake tube close to the design your wanting.
The factory tube inside dia is smaller than the windstar. So that is a restrictive point, but opening the intake up won't create great HP dif.

Opening one end is usless unless the other end and everything between is modded to match. Intake engine and exgaust must match for proper HP gains.

I was the first to do the windstar mod and posted pics way back. I only did this mod for under hood clearance for the hiline hood fender mod.

More importantly: can it use any more air? If you dyno it without anything at all bolted to the throttle body, does it consistently and repeatedly show a measurable increase in power greater than the margin of error?

All this talk about giving the engine more air REQUIRES the engine to be starved for air for ANY improvement of ANY attribute of the running engine. If it's already providing all the air the engine can possibly use, then there is absolutely no point to any kind of intake modifications short of forced induction.

At one point I had a round chrome/paper filter attached direct to the throttle body, but never had the proper adaptors to get a good secure fitment.
Thoughts on this?
I too want more space under the hood
