and how did you secure it to the bracket thing on the hood
thanks for the fast advice by the way

my jeeo came with buckle straps, you strap the footman loop to the bar on the hood, my only issue that day was visibilty as in i didnt have any mirrors so i couldnt see behind me or to the side without my sunglass falling off. i would and probally will do it again except no highway speeds

I would recommend keeping the rubber gasket clean, applying a coat of Armor All, and then apply a coat of baby oil prior to raising the windshield again.

This will help to keep the gasket from drying out and cracking - causing those dreaded LEAKz.

Take off the spreader bars going to the windshield and put them on the floor

Does anyone know if it's legal to do this on the road in Ky?
I was told it was, but the person turned out o not be that trustworthy when it comes to info.

I much prefer driving with the windshield up. That way I don't have to pay as much attentioin to my surroundings as I drive.

You'll have to check with your state. Try the DMV or ask the cops.
Most states require a windshield and windshield wiper.
But many allow folding down the windshield in good weather. Just remember to have the tools, parts, and wipers with you.

^I couldn't find squat on the DMV site.
Luckily for me if it is legal I have a cj so I just unscrew to nobs and it fold right down.

I checked with local Bangor, ME Police officers up here. Several of them (they come in to my work most days for coffee) discussed it and essentially said they didn't see any reason why it would be illegal, excepting that a mirror that allows 200 ft or rearward unobstructed view is required (in maine).

So. In the State of Maine, provided you have ONE mirror that allows an unobstructed view a minimum of 200 feet behind you, you're golden. This is how the law reads, as of the spring of 2010.

Here is the SoM DMV Vehicle Statute Page

From my digging, they're right (hopefully! They're cops!). I can't find anything that says a 4-wheeled motor vehicle can not be operated without a front windshield.
