windshield mount lights
Im thinking of putting a pair of lights onto some brackets off the windshield. What I was wondering is where the best place to run the wiring and what size light can i put there. Does it have to be some sort of slimlight? and do they <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> block vision at all?

When I installed my lights, I put the windshield down and ran them right on top of the dash. That way you can connect wires by lifting up that vent strip on the inside right by the windshield and they are totally out of sight. Then all the wires can be run directly behind the dash to the switch. I purchased a factory light switch for an older TJ and mounted it in the empty space by my rear defogger and rear wiper switches. The switch is $30 but well worth it.
I have no problem with vision...they only help when I switch those bad boys on and they light up the town. I have KC, 150w, 385,000 candle power daylighters and I love them. (Not slimlight!) Thats just me. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions and I will do my best to help. |

01Sport, the $30 factory light switches you bought from MOPAR will look like a factory install, but it can be done MUCH cheeper and STILL look like a factory install... around 6.99 a switch.
I went to my jeep dealer and bought another switch bezel (MOPAR 56007314-AD BEZEL CIG 23023020)(a switch bezel is the thing that holds 3 switches and cigar lighter to the left of yor ash tray) to put where my ash tray was so I could hvae 3 more switches that look like factory install at my finger tip. It is a COMPLETE custom job (I'll write out how to do it if u'de like). Anyways, I bought 4 Cole Hersee switches (part # 56327-01) at 6.99 each from West Fleet in Albuquerque, New Mexico (telephone # 505-884-1083). The switches fit perfectly in the bezel. They also have a small red light that lights up when it is on. I hooked up my fog lights, spot lights and back-up lights to them. I currently have one switch with nothing hook up to it. Also, another + with this set up is I have another aux power outlet (or cigar lighter). The result is that it looks good! E-mail me if you have any questions or want any pics. BY the way, how do i put pics in these forums?

JeepinAmerica, I know the switches can be done for cheaper but my wife wanted it with the factory switch so who am I to argue, she bought it and the more I can get her to buy the better.
I've heard of a lot of guys doing the extra bezel, I would do it if I had more to hook up, but for now my cigarette holder will be used for change, gum, etc. I have put fog lights on two of my cars, not including the Jeep, so I know about switches being cheap. Anyway, thanks for the info. About posting pics. This has been explained to me so let me see if I can explain it to you. I have my pics on webshots. When I go to the pic I right click on the picture and go to properties. Highlight the address. Come back to the forum and in your post, paste the address. At the beginning of the address, type "". But leave off the "'s . When you post your message it will show up. Post pics of your bezel set-up, if you will. I would like to see it. Thanks. Hope this helps! |

i also ran the wiring under the windshield just fold it down and run it right down. i drilled a hole in firewall behind glove box to run wiring under the hood. i am running the kc hilite titanium slimlines and they came with all the wiring and a switch. mounted the switch right undeer factory switches and it still looks good. not too hard of a job to do.

radio shack has little rubber antennae for 9 or 10 bucks.you know the one's similar to the lowriders,those...one downside-your radio reception will not be as good...check out my site for pics...

I drilled holes through the cowl above the wiper motors, used rubber grommets from radio shack and some connectors, with silicon to seal it up from water, now I can remove the lights when not used, and I can fold the windshield down with the lights still mounted

I also drilled holes in the window frame. As for the switch I dremelled out a nice hole right under (and above) the four wheel drive control lever and mounted my switch there. It was easy to run the wires down the dash and out the wire harness by the left drivers side right to the relay. Very clean and out of the way. The switch came with the wiring kit.
