Will an XJ steering box fit a TJ?

Can an XJ steering box be installed on a TJ? I am going to a U pull it yard and need a steering box for an 02 TJ. I dont know if there will be any Durango's there or not. I do know there are a bunch of Cash for clunker XJs. I tried a search but XJ and TJ are too short.
Thanks

hmm u know im pretty sure they should fit. id take a close look at mine and take pictures and measurements and see if they match when u compare to the ones at the yard.

i would bet u can swap them, i doubt the factory changed that. i mean they used almost the same drive train.

Yes an XJ steering box will fit on a TJ. If it's a 3 bolt, it will fit.

I swapped an XJ box into my TJ this past weekend to replace my leaking gear box. Direct bolt-in. Same part numbers.

You may look into installing a V8 Durango steering box incase you go with larger tires. Seems pretty strait forward. Food for thought.

The XJ box fits but the gearing is different. It's four turns lock to lock rather than the TJ's three. I hate it when I have to switch lock during driving. If I'd known the difference beforehand I'd have stumped up the 50 extra that one off a TJ would have cost.

XJ box is on. Went on with no issues. It will be a few weeks before it gets driven
