will the rc series II soften up? please say yes..

The basic lift, makes the jeep look sweet and gives it so much clearance on the 35" BFG ATs, but holy crap, the road ride is like a stagecoach (I cheaped out and didn't get the 2.2 upgraded shocks.) I'm happy with the lift, but need to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and the springs/shocks will soften up over time. Please someone tell me (and my kidneys) this is the case, and how many miles this will take. Alternatively, will a good set of shocks help out?

btw, I know...my bad expecting a $500 kit to make anything more than a mallcrawler...j/k for the price its pretty good, just finding it takes another $500 in bits and bobs post-installation..

DirtyJeepBoy 06-28-2010 11:07 PM

No.... Just kidding, Good shocks would definetly help the cause...

2.2 IMO doesn't equal upgrade. I cant wait to get rid of mine.

try a set of bilstein 5100 shocks. expensive but well worth it from what I've heard

inglisleslie 06-28-2010 11:08 PM

nope, should have gone with OME, blistein, or rancho 9000 w/ adjustable with myride

DirtyJeepBoy 06-28-2010 11:10 PM

Meant to add, I would go with Bilstein 5100s, thats what I'm planning when I get my 3.5" RE lift.. My friend Jerry runs those and said they ride amazingly...

Man, some people just expect too much from a cheap lift kit. I have the Series II and it rides a little rough, but I can live with it until I piece together something nicer.

jeepernoob 06-28-2010 11:27 PM

Hey I don't have your kit but I do have a Rough Country 3.25" with the 2.2 shocks and progressive coils It has loosened up quit a bit. It took about 2 weeks and a couple good wheels out in the bush but now its great. I would imagine the other shocks from rough country would loosen out just the same but time will tell.

I've found the springs won't/aren't softening, and some friends have advised to start with springs not shocks. So I've decided to change them out. Anyone with suggestions for manufacturers of replacement springs?

2.2s are still as well i'd look at something different

So you buy cheapo stuff, suffer with the bad quality, then upgrade again to better quality. Wouldn't it have been less expensive to buy the quality parts the first time around, and skip wasting money on the junk?

Call up Savvy Off-Road and get yourself a Currie 4" lift kit. Sell the RC junk on craigslist.

thanks. the whole kit? or just the springs, like CE-9130H?

get the whole stinkin' kit with some OME long travel shocks. you'll like it a lot.

RX7TT 05-15-2011 06:30 PM

I don't mean to thread jack... well I do, but I'd rather not start another thread about cheap lifts.

In the expert opinions of the vaunted JF TJ Tech gurus, is the Black Diamond 3" kit worth the extra $200 over the RCSII?
