Why all the D35 love now?
Has anybody else noticed all the love that's been given to the D35?
I just think it's funny that for years it's been bashed, now it's not.

Go back in history; the YJ got bashed, the TJ got bashed, the XJ got bashed, the 4.0 gets bashed, the Rubi D44 still gets bashed, the JK gets bashed, the list goes on and on...
The D35 is a decent axle for what it is, there's literally millions of them on the road, and trails, and they do just fine. Like everything else in life they have things that could have been designed better, but it does what it was intended to do. I ran a D35 for years and broke one axle shaft being stupid. The biggest problem with the D35 is the driver's right foot. If I had the money I'd run 60's or 609's. A D35 can be upgraded, but so can a D44, a D60, an 8.8, a 9", anything can upgraded. Why are there Super 44's, Super 88's, alloy shafts for D60's? Someone always wants stronger and better, but that doesn't mean the original was bad to begin with, it can just be better. But money is an issue, maybe that's why the D35 isn't so bad after all.

StvDiego,
I think that's a fair assessment (sp?).

I'm going bigger than 35s, so the D35 wasn't an option for me. I agree that it is an option for many. Still, every little noise I heard from the rearend when I did have the D35 made me cringe.

You'll get no love from me as it's an inanimate object, but my S35 continues to serve me well.
Works for me

Maybe people are finally realizing that not everyone needs a d44, 8.8, etc for the trails they run. We still have our original d35 ( now with a super 35 ) and although I have a 8.8 sitting in the garage, I can't be bothered to do anything with it as long as the 35 keeps going. The only time I'll replace the 35 is if it gets bent.
Another thing to consider is that when times are good, people are more willing to change out eqquipment for a percieved improvement. When times are tough, people tend to get real again and look at what they have and decide/realize its not so bad afterall. When things turn around, the bashing will continue! ![]()

Neither has the fact changed that beefing it up with a Super 35 or c-clip eliminator kit from Superior Axle will allow it to run up to 35" tires with a locker. Nothing has changed, though perhaps some have come around to realizing that it is possible to upgrade it so it's not the turd some claim it is.

Like many; I to would eventually like to move up to something tougher then the D35, but in all honesty it's not something I HAVE to do, it's just one of those: 'If I had the money burning a hole in my wallet'. I'll replace the D35 when it's near the end of its life, and with the way I drive a D35 should out live me
