Who's got a TeraLow 4:1?

A freind just got one SHIPPED from Sams Offroad for $849 !!! With a 2 year warranty, I'm considering this over the Atlas which would cost almost 3 times that after driveshaft mods.

Is that just the 4:1 kit, or a t-case with the kit installed? cause the kit itself is usually in the $1200 range...

Just the kit. $1200 is way too high, I've seen them at a few places right around 950 - 1000 plus shipping.

On a 4:1? Great upgrade to an NP231 if you do enough of the type offroading that requires a lower ratio that doesn't affect your highway rpms or speeds. I'd love to install either a Tera 4:1 or Atlas II in my TJ, that is for sure!

You cannot beat the tera low, I have one and I love it. It has never let me down and like you said, no drive line mods required.

Thanks! As much as I'd love an Atlas, paying 3 times as much ($1800 for standard Atlas plus front upgrade plus DS's plus shift levers = ~2500) and going through the hassle of modifying the TC mount and getting the DSs relengthened/shorten just doesn't seem worth it.

I like mine alot, you don't even know it's there in 2 hi. But they do whine when in 4 low and a little in 2 low. The first time I drove it in 4 low, I thought there was something wrong with it, but it's normal.

It's a great crawler and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. The only real downside is if you are combo crawling and fire-roading, you have to shift in and out of hi for the roads... Which we should all be doing anyway

I have the tera low kit. I blew mine up within the first 8mos--It was replaced under warrantee. Have had the "new" one in there for about 9mos now. All is well, but it is noisey--even in 2hi. It is great off road if you do rocks. If i had it to do over again, i would have went atlas---i know with all the mods it costs a lot more, but you can control the front and rear seperatly. Plus, I think an atlas is a lot stronger---i am still waiting for mine to go again. The only reason i went tera instead of atlas was because the jeep club i'm in was having a group buy on tera stuff and i got the 4-1 for $750, a lot less than an atlas would have run me. But, i guess your wheeling style will or should dictate what is right for you. Don't get me wrong the tera works good, but the atlas is a much better/stronger unit than any np231.

What "blew" exactly? I have been considering this option as opposed to regearing the R/P's since I only need the crawl ratio in 4L and dont wanna make it a pain to drive to and from the trailhead, its not a trailerqueen yet

I have wondered about the durability of multiplying THAT much torque through a chain driven case....
