whine from transmission area 1st & 2nd gear

I have a 98 Wrangler 2.5L w/ 5sp manual. I am getting a loud whine when starting out in 1st & 2nd gear it seams to do it more when weather is warm. It is intermittent though, I can drive and it does it for half a day then the other half it doesn't which makes hard for my dealership to figure out. It almosts sounds like the 4wd is engaged making more sound and then it will then go back to 2 wd making the sound go away. Don't know if this has anything to do with it but this winter when the temps were below 0 I had a hard time shifting through the gears so I had my dealership put in synthetic fluid in the trans and this helped the problem alot. Could this contibute to the problem or does anyone any othe advice or ideas?

Maybe, How long has yours been making the noise? Just wondering if I need fork out the cash to fix it right away or not if it is that. The noise isn't unbearable.
