where to mount air tank in jeep?

first off, not sure if this belonged here or in GD, but figured it fit better here so move it if you like

in a couple weeks, im going to get a fairly cheap air compressor for the jeep, to fill tires up with after wheeling, and to use impact wrenches when needed, and i was just wondering, where is the best place to mount the air tank? should i mount it in the back, and feed enough line up to the compressor, or mount it all under the hood?...any suggestions would be helpfull

A lot of people mount it under the jeep by the driveshaft opposite the muffler and run lines along frame rail from there

with that set up, are you able to use an impact wrench much, or does work for a short while, then have to wait for it to fill back up, then it works for another 5 min?..or is it good to use for jobs all over the jeep without it having to fill up with air to often?

just curious, bc my boss was telling me, with the compressor im looking at, its the MV50, only a 70 dollor compressor, but he said that it would work long enough to take a couple lug nuts off, then have to wait a couple minutes, then take 2 more off, so on and so forth...bc, i want a set up that i can use to actually work on my jeep, as well as fill the tires up after trail riding

that looks like a good set up by the way, thanx for the picture

Look at the air tools your using and and the )SCFM) square cubic feet per minute rate of consumption. My impact wrench likes air like a sailor likes his rum. Bottom line, your boss is right you'll only be able to use it sparingly then have to wait for your compressor to recycle. Still a great thing to have and would be best for filling tires.
Of course, this is all second hand but I am sure there are plenty of guys on here who runa system like this.

I mounted mine under the tub. It is located behind the transfer case skid on the drivers side. I have seen a Kilby tank mounted under the hood near and parallel to the firewall. It works very well for this guy, who has a dedicated trail Jeep.

thanx for the info jason. i dont know much about air compressors or how they work with tools. i just know they can be VERY handy at times..lol....hell, even if i cant use it much for a tool, i still got all my other great tools to use..all i really need it for is airing my tires back up so i dont have to go searching for an air pump somewhere

I have an electric inpact that i use while on the trail, this is only for airing up......and does not work very well. It is a Harbor Freight compressor. Cheap and it works but not the best.

That hold the tank. I got some steal and made a mount out of it. You could just bolt it to the tub, but I plan to go LA in the future and wasn't sure where you put it where it wouldn't interfere. So I did that for now.
