Honestly Im not 100% sure, I remember reading it somewhere...

I can tell you my old one was very hard to turn once removed and the new one spun like a top.

I think it was just your Jeep telling you that it is too clean and wants to see some off road time. Man, that's a clean engine!!!!

Edited write up. I forgot the new seal at the base of the assembly and now have a very messy oil leak. If any of you followed this, I hope your new assemblies came with the gasket. Mine did not.

no gasket with mine. called dealer to see if they had or could get one and all he showed was some triangular shaped gasket. mine got cut trying to scrape it off. I dressed it up with some hi temp silicone and put it back together. started up everything was good, no check engine light or oil leaks. later I'll take it for a spin and see if its still good.

fropleyquark, if you get a gasket please post the part number for future reference

can I take that roll pin out of the gear, relube the shaft and put it back together for next time? mine was only squelling at start up and not every time. I can't see why it can't be cleaned up, relubed and put back in service. just a thought.

Sorry man no part number. The parts guy here is really cool. He couldn't find it in the parts breakdown either. He said he'd call me back after a little digging. I don't know what he found but it worked. He gave it to me for free and we made sure it fit the old one so no wrapper. I'll try to remember to give him a call tomorrow and see if he can get me the part number

the fsm says that the shaft is not servicable. You could try I guess.

Somebody needs to take that thing apart and source just that $3.00 bearing! Then you could really save some dollars.
