What size is my gas tank?

I have a 1997 Wrangler Sport. Does anyone know if it would have the 15 gal. or the 19 gal, or do you know how I would tell (aside from running it low and filling it up)?

Thanks.....looking into a replacement tank after a trail ride where it took a beating....

JB

Everything I read said mine would be 19 but when I do the math on approximately how much it costs me to fill it up, it's 15.
I don't know how you accurately find out but I am sure someone on here does.

Thanks guys.

A while back I had got the build sheet info from Jeep. I looked for that email last night but couldn't find it. After I did this post I found it, and it turns out I have the 19 gal. tank.

Yours is 15. 19 didn't become standard until 1999.

Although mine is 19 my fuel light comes on after using 15 gallons and that's when I fill up so in essence I have a 4 gallon "reserve".

If it came with the 4.0L, it also has the 19 gallon fuel tank... IIRC

That doesn't make sense. I have an '01 and I am telling you it's a 15 gallon tank. There is no way I have 4 more gallons when I am on empty. And mine is the 4L I6

I'm confused. Why are you doing math based on gas cost to determine how much gas you put in? You realize gas pumps tell you how many gallons you have put in? No math necessary.

Because I didn't look at how many gallons but I remember it cost me $51.00 to fill it up (I had a bit of fuel left) and it was $4.12 a gallon.
On this tank, I am definitely going to pay attention because I want to find out my miles per gallon. So next time I fuel up, I will take a picture of the pump.
I wont keep arguing this, and I want to know for sure. Which I will...soon...as with Jeeps it's not too long before the next fill.
And mine is in kilometers and litres, but I do convert!

So when you are on empty you still have four gallons in your tank?
That just seems odd to me. I very well could be wrong but I am feeling stubborn on this one. Sorry, I am female! Laugh.
I guess I am stealing the attention on this thread. Sorry, don't mean to.

Hang on just a second boys... I have a '99 TJ, and am pretty sure it doesn't have a 19 gal. tank. Are you saying ALL '99 TJs would have a 19 gal. tank standard? Before reading this I would have bet you a $20 spot I only had a 15 gal. tank...hmmm...

I'm low today, maybe i will run it till she dies and confirm this...

I have a '99 Sport I6 and have a 19 gal tank. I know because I've filled more than 15 gals, and the manual says I have a 19 gal tank.
