What is this Plug Ford 8.8

Does any one know what this plug is for on a Ford 8.8 rear axle. I just got this and noticed this plug on the axle. If you know please let me know.

Thanks

abs sensor, its not needed with the jeep so you'll need to unbolt it and bolt/weld a plate there so its sealed up. if you remove the diff cover you'll see the abs sensor ring on the ring gear.

Thanks. I was wondering what it was for. Thought it might be some type of rear locker that ford came up with.

or you could just leave it in there i actually use it as a filling point as it is much easier and faster to fill up. plus it makes it easier to see when to stop filling because the bottle is not between my eyes and the fill plug.

Um, old thread, but great idea! I'll just stick a rubber plug into it.

ECGS has freeze plugs that fit perfect for like $1.50.
