For stock OE driveshafts, there are three u-joints up front and two u-joints in the rear. They're all 1310 series u-joints and the Spicer p/n is 5-785x. You can go with the greasable 5-153x but unless you regularly do deep mud, the 5-785x is triple-sealed and is a more durable u-joint without the need to be regularly lubed like the unsealed 5-153x.

That is inside the CV (constant velocity aka double-Cardin) joint at the rear of the front driveshaft. I haven't tackled rebuilding a driveshaft's CV joint yet, can't help you with the hows of that kind of job.

Do you have one of the U-joint tools that Stu talks about on his site?

U-Joint Replacement - 1

I picked one up this weekend for use on a buddys truck and it does help make the job a lot easier. Well worth the $40

quick question. Doesn't the DS need to be re-balanced once you replace with new u-joints.

No, u-joints are precision devices and when installed correctly and centered in their yokes, will not affect the balance. This assumes you haven't pulled the driveshaft apart in the middle and rotated the two halves into a different position that would throw it out of balance.

Thanks Jerry, you just saved me some cash. I'll just replace these myself now that I know that.
