Mobil1 10w-30 synthetic. I had to get a Fram filter last time as there weren't any others there, I trust cheapo fram more than walmart brand stuff. You all say the Mopar 90 fits these? What about my 2.5L, does it fit it?

I just had my 4.0 rebuilt. I was told by the shop that falling zinc (zddp) levels in oils is
Killing motors with solid lifter cams. They recommended a racing oil with high zinc. Anyone else here anything on this.

This is very true, but I don't know if you need to run racing oil. This is the reason I'm using Rotella-T synthetic diesel oil in the Jeep - much higher ZDDP and heavy detergent package. The 4.0 doesn't care that one bit that the oil weighs in at 5w40.

You may be warned about damaging your catalytic converter by running diesel oil, but in all reality you'd have to be burning a lot of it before this ever happened, and it would take a long time to do it. Besides, burning oil of any formulation is awful for a catalytic converter.

If you want to find ZDDP level comparison charts, they're out there. Fortunately, most of the quality brand pure synthetic oils for gas and diesel engines alike have maintained acceptable ZDDP levels, and you don't need to pay price premium for a racing oil to get it.

Here is a bit of an interesting read and comparison on formulations of current diesel oils, many of which will get along excellently with the 4.0: http://www.turbodieselregister.com/TDR57_Oil.pdf

How purple is it? Other synthetic lubricants have a purple tint. The fully synthetic oil used in jet engines has a slight purple hue.
