It's just a die that is added when manufactured. Looks cool I guess. When you drain it out after 3k it looks just like any other oil. Same as any other oil. Marketing hype is all that stuff is.

The only thing I run synthetic in any more is my automatic transmission (ATF+4) and in my transfer case. Thats good to know Jerry.

OP In all of the Jeeps, I use Castrol GTX 10w30.

I use Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w30 for three reasons:

1) It offers the protection and extended service of a full synthetic oil.

2) It is the viscosity rating recommended by Jeep.

3) It offers the level of protection that the 4.0 was designed to run on. More specifically the additive package of ZDDP (zinc phsposhate). As of my last research on the subject, every other full synthetic in 10W30 has ZDDP levels at the newer, yet much lower, 'emission compliant levels' of 800 PPM instead of the older 1000+PPM that the engine was designed around. (Higher offers better wear protection.)

Tons of info available on the web on the subject for those interested.

Here is the table listed ZDDP and Phosphate levels that Mobil refers folks with inquires of concern of use of newer oils in flat tappet engines: https://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Files/Mobil_1_Product_Guide.pdf

My last oil change I put in Valvoline full synthetic 5w30, and it was a noticable difference in cold NY weather from regular 10w30. If I can actually remember to PM the amsoil rep before I need to do my next oil change I'll be running amsoil 0w30. Otherwise I'll look for Valvoline full synthetic in the 0w-30 flavor.
