What the Heck is This?

What is the unused tray under the master cylinder for? It almost looks like a second battery tray? Or is it just some sort of cover? What has anyone done to use this space, besides a second battery? Looks like a good place for a tool box.

It's for ABS components, if you had ABS. Folks have used it to mount a second battery, small DC air compressor,...

Keep in mind that free advice can frequently be worth less than you pay for it.

^Winner. I mounted an air compressor there, but toolbox idea is not a bad idea.

Ahhhh.... Good! No ABS! Have it on my pick up and it scares me whenever I have to hit the brakes hard and it kicks in!! I still manually pump the brakes in wet weather automatically when I'm driving it, and I think the ABS freaks out sometimes. I was thinking an old ammo box (if I can find one that is more square) or something alomg those lines bolted down to that tray would hold a fair amount of tools. Thanks for the answers!

It's called an "accessory tray", and a lot of people mount an ARB compressor there. I personally would worry about the heat in the engine bay overheating a larger compressor, but I don't ever remember hearing anyone say it overheated the small ARB compressor.

I put a PA speaker there. Best spot I could find under the hood for volume and no feedback.

When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem starts looking like a nail.

On my Right-Hand-Drive TJ, that's where the battery is.

I like that tool box, but it's a bit pricey at $120 plus shipping. Might be the way to go, but I think I'll keep looking around to see if I can't find something else. A good excuse to finally get a welder and make one myself!

Ya thats where my Air Comp. sits.
One of the very first mods i did.
All jeeps should have one.
I've even used it for nail guns.

If the tray below the master cylinder is empty you don't have ABS.
