Diff fluid swap. Just pumped out the old and pumped in the new 85W-90. The rear fluid was very dark with a metallic sheen. The front was amber without any signs of metallic debris. I'm guessing the difference is that I don't use 4WD often and the rear sees much more duty? I have only heard a clunk on acceleration one time, before the last fluid change when I dropped the covers, so I don't think anything catastrophic is going on back there. The last fluid change was 24K ago. I took two long trips this summer: one of 3700 miles total (FL to NH and back), and one of 1700 miles total (FL to N GA and back). Many high speed highway miles on this fluid. Was what I found common?
New cap and rotor from NAPA.
