On the trails Sunday I noticed a thumping sound and felt
it in the steering. Thought something was wrapped around
the drive shaft as it kept in time with speed...but nope. Seems
to happen when I turn wheels to the right. Ok I was on the
***** trails so I didn't get crazy with it by any stretch.
It has 26k but haven't changed diff fluids yet.. The drive
home was fine so I'm guessing it's only in 4wheel drive. Haven't
taken it somewhere yet to test it in the open. Any thoughts??
Trying to figure out what is going on.
The one prank on my Jeep this summer that I give the person credit for was taking a short length of rubber hose and duct-taping it to one of the driveshafts so that whenever I moved the Jeep it would whack against the floorboards. If it's doing it with the movement of the Jeep, then it's obviously something to do with one of the rotating parts (axles, wheels, drivehsafts, etc.). I'd visually check everything in the front end before you start taking stuff apart.

Technically, I pulled the transmission and transfer case Sunday but I got them up on the workbench and broke 'em apart tonight. Maybe I'll get motivated soon to open up both cases and see how things look!
