I spent the day changing the oil to Royal Purple, put on a Wix filter, replaced the thermostat because of code P1281, replaced rear axle seal, and changed the differential fluid to Lucas in the front and rear differential.
Took off the spare and 3rd brake light assembly. Just wanted to clean the gunk out from behind it, but now I kinda like it this way
And finally got a heat gun this morning. Decided to try it out on my window trim pieces. Worked nicely! Now to do my wife's entire Xterra
(light swath across the center is dirt on the lens, sorry about that)
Took it to the front bumper gap piece as well:
And the gorilla glue worked well on the loose steering wheel grip, except for in the top center. Must have not gotten enough glue in there. Gonna give it a second application there when I get a chance.
Taught my son how to drive it (manual). Stalled and lugged a bunch of times and made me a little nervous at first, but he caught on. Made me proud. After we were done touring the high school parking lot for an hour he drove it to get gas, but when he restarted, the throwout bearing was screaming. We got home and stopped and started it back up with no noise. I have a bad feeling the noise will be back soon though
