added my 2nd firestik... first one snapped on minimal trail use...and I mean minimal... odd.

You *must* use a spring with a fiberglass whip if you want to use one on the trail. Either that, or use a very short antenna and hide it in some place where it can't get whacked by brush. They simply will not survive otherwise.

I am soooo glad I got a spring for mine when I bought it. I've hit it on more parking garages, car washes, and my garage than trees.

I guess it's going to be a spring added next then...I have the 90 degree swivel so i can lay it down in the garage at home/work/airport. I normally jump out and lay it down if we are in thick low lying trees and stuff too...surprised at how quickly and easily it broke. honestly though, I don't mind snapping the $12 parts... those I can still sleep at night about.
