synthetic is lighter and just as strong, if not stronger than steel line. this is taken directly from lvum4x4's WJ build

The steel cable is difficult to work with, requires gloves, heavy, extremely dangerous because they stretch (which stores a lot of energy that is capable of severe damage) and a total nightmare to spool. I highly recommend that you think about upgrading if you are using steel. At first, it seemed like a lot of $$ but one encounter with kinked cable, damaged strands or a crossover snap will make you apprectate the value of a good quality synthetic line.

Ok, on to the upgrade. Sorry for all the dirt, I just got back from the desert and dont have time to clean it up. I de-spooled the cable to get ready to install the new AmSteelBlue line. I went with 125 ft. of 3/8" line rated at 19,600 lbs from Winchline.

You will want to install the new line as shown below (with the cross loop taped across the drum).

I loaded the new line with moderate tension (dragged a volkswagen bug with the e-brake on lightly) so I have a nice tight roll. This will ensure that the next time I need it, it will not be such a bear to work with. This stuff is light weight, extremely strong and even floats if you are working around water.

...and here ya go, all done! Now, I have 25% more length, 2x the strength and just dropped over 30 lbs off the front end. I already have a fiberglass bumper so my front end is as light as I can get it.

Here is a pic all cleaned up...

also, when steel cable is being stretched it stores energy, and if it snaps that energy is going to whip the cable around if you dont have something draped over it to hold it down.

Yes. That's a pretty vague question, but there really aren't too many provisos in that answer. It's lighter, it's stronger, and it's safer. A savvy individual will go with a safety thimble if at all possible.

I painted them Black and then took a brush and did the lettering in red.You could tape it off and spray it but Im not that patient. I plan on buying a set of caged type Hella covers soon anyway.

You got it. Here's a little picture of it. No cutting, drilling, fabing involved. Requires a single phillips screwdiver to install.

Installed

Is sure is. Uses a standard air filter so you can replace as much as needed depending on how much dust you drive through.

Thanks. I designed it and had my friend build it in his machine shop. Patent Pending but I think we can start selling them soon.

Not sure if I can post much more here due to forum rules. If interested PM me.

Erik

bought used Rubicon Express 4.5 Supflex arms, all four fixed lowers and all four upper adjustables, doing a tummy tuck w/sye and CV driveshaft here shortly so I needed the upper adjustables anyway and got a good deal on this whole set.
