He ran into me hard enough that it threw the transfer case into 4hi.

The plan for now is find the strongest rear bumper I can and get the spare off the tailgate and on its own carrier or fab up something to mount it inside the rear seat area. I'm really kicking myself for not just ditching the carrier in the first place as the damage would have been limited to the bumper and easy to fix.

FWIW, you might want to consider one of these:

SUPERBUMPER Hitch Step - Stops Rear End Collision Damage.

or...

Get this Hitch Step from SUPERBUMPER! Help Eliminate Rear End Collision Damage with Patented Compressor System that's Proven & Tested

If I had a 2" receiver I'd have one already. I've got a 1.25" inch receiver so I'm waiting for them to finish up the testing (hoping later this month) then I'll get one. (Pretty amazing looking product, how it absorbs the blow.)

It does look like it would definately help protect from a low speed collision, but holy crap that thing is ugly LOL!~ And I would end up busting the hell out of my shins or knees with it sticking out like that.

Fixed a loose outer door handle on my passenger door. After about an hour and a half of trying to get those stupid handle keepers back in, I finally just flipped them and the retaining clips upside down and tapped them in from the bottom in all of 2 minutes. I figure gravity may now be working against me on keeping them in place should a clip fail, but who cares???

If you do, I know where you can get a hard top for it (on 87 toward Victoria from San Antonio) for $300 in what appeared to be good condition when looking at it at night. I saw it next to the fence in the front yard of a guy's house on the way out to a deer lease, FOR SALE sign stuck on it...

thanks for the heads up but i doubt id ever run a hardtop. its got two soft tops, black and tan, 304 v8, 4speed, dana 300, wide track axles, rear locker, 35s (which are to big for it. id sell em for some 33s) runs great starts great. i love it but not sure if i could give up my tj although i would have money left over which i could really use. they were asking 4500 for the CJ but i could get it for 4 even.

I agree here, I would love to own a CJ5 or 7 but i will probably never sell my TJ.

As for what I did today, I installed my new 35 tooth speedo gear in the tcase its strange reading the right speed after so many years of it being off.
