IMO the cherokee rack is one of the best designs i could find, plus its from a jeep! its held down with 6 screws running along the rail from front to back, and its a really simple design so you can chop off the ends to make it fit your top. sorry for the cell phone pics, i dont have a camera.

That roof rack looks awesome and very usefull . I've been wanting to do this to my LJ esp. because the family approved taking the Jeep to our NC home for vaca and I need a place to put all the bags (3 girls worth) But after seeing it on your LJ, I'm heading to the yard this Saturday with a goal in mind. Boy if I get all my parts today from the brown truck, I'll have a fun weekend... DDM HID kit, rear pads, new plugs and hopefully a new (to me) roof rack.

When I had my hardtop I wanted to do that myself. Looks good. Might want to add a third bar for heavier stuff.

I also wanted to add a light bar from a Liberty. Just for kicks...

good luck. i found 2 different style racks on the XJs in the junkyard. the one i ended up using has little twist knobs to move/remove the crossbars. it was chrome though hit me up if you have any questions about it.. but its pretty straight forward you should be just fine.

i wouldnt put anything too heavy up there. i got the rack so i can mount a snowboard rack up there and carry, at most, 4 boards.
