Reinforce it by welding two pieces of 2" X 2" angle iron length-wise a couple of inches in from the edges. Makes a big difference in the strength of this skid. I did that to mine after I got tired of leaning it against the curb and jumping on it to straighten it out.

Well, I did it.

I changed out the old, very cracked exhaust manifold on my TJ. Outside of brakes and the usual stuff, this was big for me. It turned out great; the Jeep is quiet and has a bit more power. As cracked as the old one was, I would bet it was running very rich. I hope that equates into better MPG.

It was not as bad as I 1st thought it might be, but it took some elbow grease to get it done. Took one evening and about 6 hours the next day. I would guess next time (hope it never comes) it could be done in 6 total and then hopefully never again.

Hey, for all those that think they can't do it, think again. If I can, you can. And I saved enough in labor and over-charged parts ($198+tax for a $65 part?), I have some new tools and put the rest toward a winch.

I'm stoked!

I finally wrapped up my axle swap project with adjusting the e-brake cables and painting the steering linkage and hydro assist ram that I installed on Saturday. I bought new 37X12.50R17 MTR-Ks and Trail Ready beadlocks as part of this upgrade. The new axles are HP 60s that I posted a few pages back. These upgrades also entailed new drive shafts and a Crawler tank/skid from Gen-Right. Here's some pics showing how she sits now:

OK, I am EXTREMELY jealous. That is on badarse looking purty jeep I love ALL the mods. What did you use for roll bar padding there? I need to replace mine as well.

Thanks, I'm pretty happy so far. We'll see this week when I take it up to Hor Springs. The roll bar padding is just some pipe insulation that I got from Ace Hardware (1-3/4" X 5/8" IIRC) and a whole bunch of electrical tape.
