What to bring for Moab
I don't know if I'll make it to Moab in time for EJS but I am going sometime next month to visit an old friend in Salt Lake. The plans are to do some wheeling, camping, and whatever else comes to mind and I want to make the most of the trip. I'm still working on finding some info on the Moab/Arches area of Utah as well as trying to find somewhere near SLC to wheel since we'll be there a good bit as well. My question is for the locals of that area or at least to those of you who know a good bit about the area. I think my Jeep will do fairly well considering the 35" MT/R's, RE 5.5" Long Arm and 4.88's. I've got some Rokmen sliders on the way and next week sometime I'm swapping out the stock steering for a Chevy TRE conversion using 1-3/8" OD DOM tube. I've got the BTF D30 & D44 covers and that with the Rokmen sliders pretty much rounds out what I've got for skids. I don't have any lockers yet which I planned on getting by the end of the year so that is my main concern since I fear it will limit me severely as to what trails I can run. So with that being said what's your thoughts on my setup and any recommendations on what to get or take along. I'm not worried about the real hardcore trails since that terrain will be totally new to me and I won't be used to it, I just want to get out there and wheel and have a good time. Another thing being some 2000 miles away from home I'm not going to be TOO WILD and risk tearing anything up just in case someone says to bring a trailer full of spares. Also if anyone has any recommended reading or links to some good info pertaining to my plans post it up. Again my main concerns are not having lockers and a little more skids like the engine/tranny, and gas tank but I may do something about the skids before hand. I'm going to try and finish my OBA before I go as well.

what ever you bring you will have a good time, just have someone that has been on the trails before and that will make things alot less intimidating (they will know the least risky lines)

Thanks for the link, a lot of great info to be found there. I'll have to spend some time reading up on everything they have to offer.

I have been in SLC for about 2 years now and have been to Moab twice. I have a 04 Rubicon that is still stock and have had no problems while in Moab, a few close calls though. I have used this site to find some areas close to SLC for some weekend fun.
http://4wheeldrive.about.com/od/utahtrails/ The locals in Moab will also be able to point you in the right direction. |
