What am I missing about "Highline Fenders"

I was looking at the AEV Highline kit last night as that look is intriguing to me (granted I couldn't swallow that price and would have to homebrew mine). The Qtec Ad claims that with it, 37" tires can be run with only 3" of lift. Here's what I don't get. Currently, I'm running a 2"BB with 33x12.50 Goodyear MTR's on Soft 8's w/4" Backspacing. Currently I'm rubbing at full cut on the sway bar. How can raising the fender line increase tire clearance by that much? Am I missing something? I really like the idea of running larger tires without massive lift.

i run 35,s and 4 inch lift only and stuff mine all the time and have never hit the sway bar and i think i have the same back spaceing but not positive..

I'm running 35s with 3.75" BS and don't rub on anything and I've only got 3" of lift and a 1" body lift...

Yeah, that's what I mean, when the wheel is turned all the way, I rub on the sway bar.

Is your swaybar disconnected? I know when mine is not I rub but when I have it disconnected and tucked out of the way I'm all set.

They are very cool but the fenders are a small part of functionally fitting big tires. If you run the axles needed to be durable, I think you'll find axle and steering clearance to be a bigger challenge than tire vs. fender. I run ~4" suspension and 1.25" bl on 39s and fender clearance was never the issue (staying low and still clearing my 60s at stuff was the hardest part).

This is my point exactly. I don't see how they can claim that tire size at that height and expect to be able to do anything but drive on pavement in a straight line.

I don't think fenders alone is a good way to go to 37s but some people will run 37s on factory axles and so their only big issues are durability, limited steering range (increase stops, add spacers, and/or get reduced backspacing) and fender clearance. That'll work for trips to the mall and light foot easy wheeling; so for some it's a quicker way to get the look they want.

In the hands of someone like Blaine, the highline style fenders can really compliment a quality build.

You can run 35's and no lift with the Metalcloak arched tube fenders.

Do you two work for MetalCloak?

and yes but then begins the question of function. Is your frame too low (entry, breakover, exit)? High fenders are cool but....

You might want to look into larger backspacing.
