Guys, I need a sanity check here, any advice would be appreciated. I'm having a problem with my 2000 TJ Sport. When the outer lights are on, or if the transmission is in reverse, the left hand turn signals flash at twice the normal rate. The four way flashers work fine, it's only the left turn signals that are flashing odd. Also, the left stop light will only illuminate at about half brightness. Last weekend I checked all the bulbs and fuses with a meter, no problems found. I checked the cable connection for the left rear light assembly, but couldn't find anything wrong with that either. The front turn signal will still flash at twice the normal rate with the left rear light assembly unplugged from the circuit. So far, I haven't really found anything obviously wrong that would account for the problem.

Has the inside been rained on recently? My blinkers go wacky every time the steering column gets wet. Water gets on the hazard light switch.

Have you tried checking the flasher, itself? I've seen them do funky things.

I have had all sorts of problems with the "multifunction switch" that is in the column. Apparently all the light wiring goes through that switch. On my 2000 when it hit the brakes sometimes the left turn signal would stay on with it. So if I tapped the brakes the front left marker lights would blink too. Jeep replaced that multifunction switch 3 times on mine and they said that they had replaced a lot of them. I may be biased but I would start there.

This wont help at all but have you tried to rub you head and belly in different directions while standing on one foot, playing a flute and jungling orange pinapples? That may sound crazy but so does you problem-- that electric problem is pretty jacked up!!! It has to be a short in there somewhere-- I would have to say water would cause that problem- shorted something out or the switch itself is bad-- dont know the actually name of it (blinker switch) jsut a guess- but all that ties in together and that regulates the speed of the blinks and all that fun stuff- i may be way off or right on the money-- maybe i sparked an idea or if someone else reads this they can confirm something i said-- i havent seen that problem before.

My blinkers stopped working correctly on my 97 TJ.
When I turn the blinkers left or right, they don't work and the radio (if it was playing) power off completely(basically any accessories)
Wiggling the key in the ignition either forward or backward will sometimes get it working again. So I guess I have a faulty ignition switch.
Ironically my 2000 Prowler does the EXACT same thing, only wiggling it now doesn't make it work.
The only think in common (other than both are Chrysler products) is that they
were normally stored in the shop with their keys in the ignition... I guess this caused something to wear out.

Sounds like you have a broke ground wire on the rear tail light. Mine had a simular problem but with the left head light. Left blinker worked fine until i turned on the lights and then would flash twice as fast as normal. I founf the ground wire off, put a new connector on it, and hooked it up........ problem solved. I would definately look for a ground wire that is off or broken, start witht the tail light and then check the head light too.

I second the ground problem. Tracing it might be another story though. Hopefully what grinwa said is where you find the problem, but a faulty ground anywhere in the lighting system could cause this.
