Nautulis Compact Truck Horn- 139 db

Anyone have one of these? Could be the ticket.
I bought one of these for my JK originally. It's about twice as loud as the stocker and has a deeper tone, so its a big improvement. It's nowhere near the sound of my triple horn train horn I have now though. Whoo Hoo!

When I installed my air horn, I put two air switches in parallel, one off the horn circuit and an adjustable flow switch handle to sound it more "softly", anywhere from similar to stock to ridiculous.
(This was an early photo of the adjustable flow valve. Now has an elbow to tuck the air line out of sight.)

I live in Houston, Texas and had to remove my air horn last February when I got it safety inspected. It was not a big one, was very similar the HF one that's linked to above. They opened the hood, took one look at that horn, and sent me home. It wasn't all that loud, but they didn't care, didn't even blow it. They said air horns were illegal, except on big rigs. I now have a weenie horn, but at least I can pass safety inspections.

2006 Rubicon, that "inspector" didn't know what he was talking about. Did you ask him to show you in the book where the regs state that an air horn isn't permitted? There is no exception for different classes of vehicle.
From the TX DPS website on vehicle inspection/rejection criteria at

<http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/inspection/rules_list.asp?itemdrop=Horn&rejectsubmit=Go>

20.17 Horn. Every motor vehicle shall be equipped with a horn (electric or air) in good working order and capable of emitting a sound audible for a distance of 200 feet or more, but no horn shall emit an unreasonably loud or harsh sound or a whistle.

Bulb or hand-operated horn is acceptable if original vehicle equipment.

1. Inspection Procedure

a. Sound horn.

b. Check actuating device.

c. Examine wiring - mounting.

2. Inspect for and reject if:

a. Vehicle is not equipped with a horn.

b. Horn or horn switch is not securely fastened.

c. Wiring insulation is worn, rubbed bare, or shows any evidence of burning, short circuiting, or poor connections.

d. Horn switch not readily accessible to vehicle operator.

e. Horn is actuated by grounding two naked wires or similar method.

f. Sound is not audible under normal conditions for 200 feet.

g. Horn emits an unusually loud or harsh sound or whistle.

h. Operation of the horn interferes with the operation of any other circuit.

i. Horn switch missing or inoperative

i just installed a PA speaker on my cb so that my horn can express exactly what I'm feeling. Oh, you're a cop? I don't have a PA speaker...

That one is open for debate.

No, I didn't argue with the guy. The air horn wasn't that important to me, it was easier to just take it off rather have an inspection hassle year after year...

I have always wanted a set that played "La Cucaracha" like this one.

I would already have it if I knew where to install it, I don't think there is enough room under the hood for all of them. I thought about adding a light bar just for the horns, but the extra cost and that I would probably rip it off my first hunting trip have made me put it off...

has anyone got any pics of a stebel nautilus on a JK? I'm thinking about ordering one and need some ideas about how to fit it in that little spot where the stock horn is...

Thanks in advance.

I have never bought a replacement horn for my Jeep. I try the local parts stores occasionally, but never seem to find one that sounds right.

Does anyone know if the TJs have existing wiring to simply add another horn making 'duals'? My Cherokee was pre-wired for an extra, but I did not see a spare set of wires under the hood of my Rubi.
