water on passenger side floor
I did a lot of searching and tried a few things before posting this.
I noticed i have water on the passenger side floor. Some of it may be from the soft uppers not sealing right but where the water is i dont think so. no water trail to that area. but there is one from the plastic things that keep the carpet down,. I did notice a few drops on the firewall (inside under the heater) not coolant just water. A few days back I pulled the cowl off and flushed the hose etc per some other threads. But I am still getting water in there. For not I pulled the drain plug but I dont want it to collect and rust. Any ideas?

does your ac drain hose have a 90 degree elbow on it ....or does it stick straigt out? it should point down and not straight out of the firewall ...if it does stick straight out, the water wicks back and ends up in your floorboard.

In my TJ my feet (both sides of the front) will get a little damp when it rains real hard and I'm on the highway. I comes through the heater vents. Just figured it was how it was - are they not suppose to do that?
Im sure this dosn't help you issue though since its happening when your not moving.... |

not the ac as stated... no ac working in the jeep and its been parked for a few days.
The back half is under a carport . only the front half from the windshield forward is exposed so it must be the cowl.

drain infront of windshield
I had this issue about 8 years ago and the problem is pretty easy to fix. In front of your windshield and behind the hood is a wire mesh and under that wire mesh is a drain. It is maybe 8 screws to pull that section of the hood off, then take a wire coat hanger (unwind and straighten) and ream out the drain hose. When it gets clogged the result is water leaking into the cab mostly on the passenger side. Hope this helps…

I tired that and used a hose to flush it out etc. coat hanger etc. seems to flow fine. I am thinking may be my windshield gasket? but not sure.

Had the same problem and it's an easy fix. Take off the cowl again and in front of the passenger seat there is a black plastic air intake. This is where your cabin air comes from. If the drain is clogged, the water flows over the top of this. My drain wasn't clogged either, but when I let a hose run inside the cowl, water still got in through there. The gasket was shot.
If you take out the 4 or so screws holding on the top half of the box, you'll have access to the foam gasket. Mine was almost gone. I used a bunch of silicone and screwed the box back together. Good as new. |

It's likely coming in from around the heater core. Remove your battery. You will see this back there.
![]() Use the stuff that you use to reattach your diff covers. High heat is a good thing as the engine compartment gets toasty. There is a 'seam' there where metal meets. You may even see some foam gasket stuff there. If so, then you need to seal that back up. I applied several layers such that there was NO way for any resting water to seep in. You can see what I did in the above pic. IF you hose your Jeep before starting all this, then reach under your passenger dash, just above where the carpet stops, you should feel/see the heater core. You can probably reach in and feel the spongy stuff too. If it is wet, my solution will work for you. Many mention the cowl drain as a problem. I've found it stays pretty clean. HOWEVER, you may want to remove the cowl so you can see the intake over on the passenger side. I ran more of that sealant around the plastic part sticking out so that no runoff water could get up in there and go down where it shouldn't. Lousy pic, but you get the idea. ![]() Another option is to also check the gasket between the firewall and the windshield frame by lowering the windshield. This may be pinched or otherwise bad and may warrant a replacement. If you have not dropped your windshield, it shouldn't be an issue.
