Alright guys I spent yesterday at the badlands, well at the hospital near the badlands. I broke my arm on the trail after I paniced when the jeep started to roll towards the drivers side and stuck my hand out the window effectively snapping my arm just above the wrist.
I want to remind everyone to wheel safe and remember the cardinal rule, YOUR BODY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE JEEPS BODY, keep your arms and legs inside the jeep!
Hopefully no one else will make this mistake. In the end I had to have surgery where they put a titanium plate with 4 locking pins in my arm.
I even typed all this one handed, just wheel safe guys!!!

Man, sorry to hear about that!
I always tell people expect body damage at the Badlands. You now bring new meaning to this!

I've heard of body armor... but isn't that a bit much?
Glad you're okay and that it was only your arm. Instinct always tells us to brace for a fall, regardless of whether we are in a car, walking, or whatever. The challenge is to get past that instinct and just relax as much as possible. Dang near impossible.

Keep moving forward. But keep an eye on history, for if you don't, you are doomed to repeat it.

I always want to brace or try to control whats going to happen when I feel like im going to roll. I know now I should really work on just taking it easy and just let it happen. No offence but I dont want to end up like you
Glad to know it wasnt too serious.

its human nature to try to catch yourself when you fall...and it takes conciously THINKING about it NOT to stick your arms out.
Im sorry to hear about your injury-hope you get well soon. Howd your Jeep fair? Did it do better then you? Did you actually flop?

the jeep managed to avoid the flop, it was actually the jeep sliding over the obstacle that got me. I know i've learned my lesson, i hope that this doesnt happen to anyone else.

i cringed when i read that....there is a rollover vid somewhere on here or on JU that shows a guy sticking his leg out as his jeep begins to roll down a hill on the driver's side.....
glad you are ok, andnot injured any more than what happened.....

Best wishes for a speedy recovery from FL.
I had a serious motorcycle accident a few years ago (lots of metal and screws as well) and left that sport for something safer. And now this? I'm going on my first serious off road trip this week to Tellico, thanks for the insight and warning.

I did the same this past weekend, but I thought twice before sticking anything out of the Jeep... it's real easy though.
Hope you feel better

WoW sorry to hear bud! Lesson learned though, and it could have been MUCH worse!
When I layed my Jeep over, I didn't realize it at the time, but I naturally put my hand on the inside of the roll bar just to push away from it. I didn't wrap my hand around it or anything. I was SO surprised & releaved that I did that by insinct!
