Voltage Regulator Problems...I think...

Me again. One other problem with the '97 Sahara. Last night, the "check gauges: light came on, and I saw the voltmeter was buried on the top end at 19+ volts. Then, after a while, it would go back down to 14, where it should be. I figure it is the voltage regulator. Has anyone else had this problem? Is the voltage regulator in the alternator? Can the part be purchased and installed by a non-mechanic?

Thanks,

---Tim---

The VR is located in the ECM (computer)... let's hope it's not that due to the cost of replacing it.

Could well be the battery.
Get the battery checked first.

Cleaned battery connectors

After cleaning and reseating all battery cable connections, the problem did not reappear. Thanks for those who responded to my inquiry. You guys really know Jeeps.
