Viair Placement

Just bought my 1999 TJ. I have owned a couple of Jeeps before and have been dieing to get back in a Jeep since I sold my last one.

The Jeep I bought came with a Viair onboard compressor with a 2.5 gallon tank mounted where the back seat used to be. My problem is this is my daily driver and I need a back seat for the kiddos. Anyone else have this set up and been able to mount the compressor / tank somewhere else?

Tank can be mounted underneath on the drivers side beside the rear drive-shaft.

So do you mount the actual compressor under the hood? Anyone have any pics of this? Did you do anything to weatherproof it?

i saw someone had that mounted on the top of the fender wells inside the back on the TJ. i dont know how uncomfortable that would be for people in the back seat though.

You can also mount the tank under the hood. There is a good thread on here someplace.
If you don't have abs the tray is an easy option. This is the mv50

x2 thats about where my tank is....

my compressor is just inside the hood in front of my brake master cylinder. This isn't an option for you b/c your EVAP can is there. Don't know if the viair can fit where the ABS tray is, but worth a shot. No issue with weatherproofing under the hood, I didn't do anything to it, and its been fine...

My 99 doesn't have AC, so I mounted the Viair compressor where the AC compressor would go using a couple mounts I fabbed up.

I mounted the tank underneath the driver's side.

No worries about rocks in that location? I am looking to mount mine up in a yj. This looks to be the best spot to me, just worried about rocks. Not really about the tank, but the possible damage to the bottom of the tub.

I've got a couple scrapes on it, but nothing major. Been mounted there for 2 years now. I did replace the drain that's on it in the pic for a regular plug to prevent it from getting knocked off.

I've seen several others mount it in the same place with no problems.
